#2 Bulldogs face tough road playoff test
The last three trips to Scooba have been less than pleasant for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. In 2009 Gulf Coast fell 75-71 to East Mississippi in an epic battle for the MACJC title. In 2011 the Bulldogs opened the season there with a 34-30 loss followed by a 46-17 setback in the MACJC title game.
On Saturday Gulf Coast travels back to East Mississippi to battle the Lions in the semi-finals of the MACJC Playoffs. It's the seventh straight trip to the post season for the Bulldogs, and head coach Steve Campbell and his team is hoping to take down the high-powered Lions and adavnce to a seventh straight championship game.
East Mississippi has outscored it's opponents 530-33 this season and won nine games by an average score of 58-3. Last week the Lions clinched another MACJC North Division title with a 59-13 rout of Itawamba, the Lions' only win over a team with a winning record. Quarterback Dontreal Pruitt has passed for more than three thousand yards and 36 touchdowns against only 4 interceptions. Freshman Todd Mays is the team's back up quarterback bu on the ground he's rushed for 577 yards and 14 touchdowns. Mays is paired in the backfield with Lakenderic Thomas, who's tallied 802 yards and 11 TD'S on the ground. Pruitt has a stable of wide receivers to throw to including C.J. Bates (686 yds, 5 TD'S), Justin Mack (393 yds, 6 TD'S), and Antoine Adkins (525 yds, 5 TD'S). The East Miss. defense has been equally tough, allowing only 169 total yards per game and has forced 28 turnovers along with 46 sacks.
The Bulldogs answer with Antwon Wells, the MACJC'S leading rusher with 864 yards and 13 TD'S, NJCAA All-American wide receiver Dhaquille Williams (40 receptions, 596 yards, 8 TD'S), and quarterback Colton Kane (748 yds, 8 TD'S, 1 INT). The Bulldog defense has forced 21 turnovers and sacked the quarterback 21 times.
