MGCCC opens MACJC golf play Saturday
Mississippi Gulf Coast's third-ranked golf team begins MACJC play this weekend at a tournament hosted by Copiah-Lincoln.
Nine teams will participate in the two-day, 36-hole event at Wolf Hollow Golf Course in Wesson.
"We're happy to get the season started," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "The guys have been working hard in practice and our first tournament went well."
Snell brought all eight golfers to the event. He'll pick five for the team and the others will play as individuals.
Gulf Coast has won the state championship seven times since 2008. The Bulldogs have claimed the last nine Region 23 titles. This year, that tournament will be the Region D Championship and three teams will advance to the NJCAA Division II Tournament.
The Bulldogs finished second earlier this week in their first tournament of the season in Cullman, Ala. They competed against a field dominated by NJCAA Division I teams.
