MGCCC’s Adkison leads at Fairhope
Mississippi Gulf Coast's Wyatt Adkison shot 71 and is tied for the lead at the Elizabeth Kling Memorial in Fairhope, Ala., on Saturday.
Gulf Coast didn't play well as a team, however, and is eighth in the 13-team field. The Bulldogs shot 307 and trail Eastern Florida State by 11 shots.
"We struggled big time today," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "But Wyatt kept us in there. We're 11 back of Eastern Florida, but we're only six back of second and five back of third."
Adkison (5-7, 210, So., East Central/Hurley), who signed with Huntingdon College earlier this week, is tied with Copiah-Lincoln's Zach Smith.
"We've been working on his short game real hard," Snell said. "His chipping is a lot better. He got up and down just about every time he missed a green. He stayed focused and just didn't make any mistakes."
Gulf Coast plays the final round Sunday.
