No. 6 Gulf Coast in 4th at District Tourney

SAUCIER – No. 6 Mississippi Gulf Coast has dug itself a hole after Monday's first round of the NJCAA District D Tournament it is hosting at Grand Bear Golf Course.

The Bulldogs are in fourth place by two shots and need to finish in the top three to advance to the national tournament for the 10^th straight year.

"We struggled today," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "It seemed like the harder we tried, the worse we got. We just have to bow up. We can't cry over spilt milk, and we just have to play better tomorrow. These guys are talented. They'll come back tomorrow."

No. 5 Copiah-Lincoln shot 11-over to lead No. 4 Meridian by 13 shots. East Mississippi is another three shots back, then Gulf Coast. That means the Bulldogs are only five shots out of second place.

Wyatt Adkison (So., East Central/Hurley) is tied for 12^th at 6-over 78, with Logan Leary (Fr., Gonzales/Dutchtown, La.) and Jackson Wedgeworth (Fr., West Jones/Soso) another shot back tied for 15^th.

Colin Troxler (So., Hahnville/Luling, La.) is tied for 19^th, and Jonathon Newman (So., North Pike/Summit) is tied for 21^st.

"We just finished terribly," Snell said. "Colin four-putted 15, double-bogeyed 17 and bogeyed 18. Logan bogeyed 17 and 18. It just seemed like it was a snowball. It went from bad to worse."

Gulf Coast will be in the first set of threesomes Tuesday, which begins at 8 a.m.
