No. 2 Gulf Coast finishes sixth

PERKINSTON — No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast moved up two spots Sunday at the Elizabeth Kling Invitational, but still finished a disappointing sixth place.

The Bulldogs shot 308, one shot worse than Saturday, to finish at 615. Eastern Florida won the tournament with a 574.

"We just never could get untracked," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "Jackson (Wedgeworth) played really well today, but even his 72 could have been so much better."

Wedgeworth (6-2, fr., West Jones/Soso) finished the front nine double bogey-bogey-double bogey and still managed to shoot par. He finished at 149 for the tournament, eight back of the medalist. Wyatt Adkison, who led after the first round, shot 79 Sunday.

Colin Troxler (6-2, 137, so., Hahnville/Luling, La.) had a 77, which included a 10 on No. 10.

Three other MACJC schools competed. Copiah-Lincoln finished third at 599, and Meridian was four shots back in fourth. East Mississippi's 626 was good for ninth.

"Every tournament is a lesson. It just depends on if they're going to heed the lesson or not," Snell said. "Every round is really a lesson. You have to learn from your mistakes. It doesn't mean you're never going to make mistakes again, but you shouldn't make the same ones."
