No. 2 MGCCC finishes 2nd at Meridian

No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast played better Tuesday had too much ground to make up on host Meridian at the fifth MACJC of the year. The Bulldogs were 13 shots better than the first round, but lost by 11 to the Eagles.

Colin Troxler (So., Hahnville/Luling, La.) finished second in the individual standings, and Jackson Wedgeworth (Fr., West Jones/Soso) also made the All-Tournament team in fifth place.

"We played better today, but just couldn't catch Meridian," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "It's their home track and they played well.  They had two kids shoot under par. We just gave them too big a lead yesterday."

Gulf Coast was 18 shots ahead of third-place Northwest. Jonathon Newman (So., North Pike/Summit) also finished in the top 10. He shot 1-over 72 to finish at 7-over, good for a sixth-place tie.

Troxler was one shot better than his opening round, but Meridian's Isaiah Jackson fired a 4-under to win medalist by three shots.

"Colin fought back," Snell said. "He was 4-over at one time today, and birdied four out of five holes to finish. He ended on a positive note. He couldn't get the putter going until late."
