Bulldogs smoke field in first round

Mississippi Gulf Coast blistered the field in the first MACJC tournament of the year, firing a 14-under par to lead by 18 shots.

 

The Bulldogs had four of the top five individual golfers in the field, led by Logan Leary (5-11, 120, fr., Gonzales/Dutchdown, La.) who finished at 6-under 66 at Wolf Hollow Golf Course in Wesson.

 

He was two shots ahead of Colin Troxler (6-2, 137, so., Hahnville/Luling, La.) in second, and Wyatt Adkison (5-7, 210, so., East Central/Hurley) and Jackson Wedgeworth (6-2, fr., West Jones/Soso) were tied for fourth at 2-under.

 

Jonathon Newman (5-9, 135, so., North Pike/Summit) is tied for eighth at even par.

 

Host Copiah-Lincoln is in second at 4-over, with Meridian another shot back. No other team finished better than 20-over par.

 

Gulf Coast took all eight of its golfers to play in the two-day, 36-hole tournament. The other three are playing as individuals.

 

Colby Entriken (6-0, 160, fr., Hancock/Pass Christian) shot 74. Colby Blake (5-11, 155, fr., Parklane/Tylertown) was another shot back, with Brandon Fontenot (6-7, 130, so., Gulfport/Gulfport) at 5-over.
